Brief Curriculum Vitae


 AnastasiaChristodoulouwasborninThessalonikiin 1963. She is a graduate of the Department of Italian Language and Literature (1994), holds a master's degree in Language Didactics (1997) and a doctorate in the Sciences and Technologies of Language and Communication from the Interdepartmental Postgraduate Programme of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) (1998-2002). The title of her doctoral thesis is ’Semiotic analysis of foreign language learning material: The presentation of cultural characteristics in Italian textbooks’.

She has been working in the AUTH’s Department of Italian Language and Literature, Faculty of Philosophy, since 1984, when she was employed in the Department’s library. In 1990 she passed her entrance exams at the same Department, from which she graduated in 1994. The following year she was appointed librarian. In the academic year 2000, she was appointed to a position as special laboratory and teaching staff, from 2004 to 2008 she worked as a lecturer and from 2008 until today has been teaching in the university’s Italian Language Department as Assistant Professor with tenure in the field of Semiotics. Also, since 2010 she has been working at the Hellenic Open University (HOU), as tutor in the Postgraduate Programme in Cultural Management, in the module 'Management of cultural phenomena’.

She has taught Semiotics and Culture at the undergraduate level at AUTH’s Department of Italian Language and Literature. At postgraduate level, she has taught in the Italian Language and Culture Programme offered by AUTH’s Department of Italian Language and Literature (2008-2013), in the Translation and Interpreting Programme offered by AUTH’s Interdepartmental Postgraduate Programme (2006-2013), in the Cultural Management Programme at the Hellenic Open University (HOU) (2010-2013), and in the programme titled ’Cultural Studies: Semiotic Structures and Practices’, offered by the Department of Early Childhood Education of the University of Western Macedonia (2011-2012). She has also participated in courses and seminars at universities abroad, in adult education centres as a certified instructor, in the museum education programmes run by the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art and has been invited to give talks at various conferences.

She oversaw 7 master’s theses as chief supervisor and participated in 15 advisory and examining committees for master’s theses which have been completed. She is currently participating in 8 advisory and examining committees for doctoral dissertations (in 3 of them as supervisor), in 1 post-doctoral research paper as supervisor, as well as in 20 advisory and examining committees for master’s theses (in 3 of them as supervisor), which are ongoing. She has also participated in steering committees and electoral bodies.  

She has served as Vice President and President of the Grading Centre for Special Subjects, Thessaloniki, Ministry of Education, has been a member of the National Academic Recognition Information Centre for the Italian Language, has been selected by the Ministry of Education as a foreign language expert for the 'New School', is registered as an evaluator with the committees for teacher evaluation and certification, and is also registered as a Certified Instructor in Adult Education, with the Education Ministry’s National Organisation for the Certification of Qualifications and Vocational Guidance. She is also a member of AUTH’s Committee on Cultural Policy, a spokesperson in the Senate, and a member of committees of AUTH’s Italian Department. She was a member of scientific and organisational conference committees and has participated in 12 subsidized research projects.

Her books and papers and her research interests focus on issues pertaining to semiotic text and image analysis, mainly in the field of education (textbooks, visual literacy, educational laws) and in the broader social sphere (advertising, values education, attainable luxury). She has published three books independently one translation in collaboration and one methodology in collaboration. She has forty-two published papers in scientific journals, conference proceedings and edited volumes, and has participated in the writing of research packages. She has extended her field of interests to other social spheres as well, writing for a book published by the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art, the Art Catalogue entitled A-PROSOPA / A-LITHI (Personal-Impersonal / Truth-Oblivion), and the journal Enimerosi of the Panhellenic Federation of Language School Owners; participating in the HOU’s updating of teaching material, and producing material relating to values and education for use in Educational Training Programmes.
